Women’s Circles & Blessingways

Women Circles and Blessingways are not “new age”, they are an ancient and time-honored practice in many indigenous communities. They respect the tradition of women gathering together to support each other in transitions of life. I honor my Choctaw and Cherokee roots with every circle as I play a drum and chant a blessing for the woman of honor.

What is a Blessingway? A Blessingway is when an expectant mother (does not have to be a first time mother) is near the birth of her baby. It is a safe, encouraging space for the mother to be surrounded by the women in her life that uplift her as she goes through this new transition. It is not to be confused with a baby shower as there are no gifts for baby. This is all about mama.

What happens at a Blessingway? Mama receives charms from each member of her circle along with blessings from each of them. Then as she gets ready for birth she can wear her bracelet or necklace, to remind her of all the support she has in her tribe. Mama also receives a candle along with each of her support persons, when mama goes into labor everyone who was in attendance at the Blessingway lights a candle and says a blessing for her. The mom-to-be receives birth affirmations written by Moon Mother and participants to flip through in the days leading up to and possibly during the birth.

Can someone who is not the birthing person have a Blessingway? YES! People grow their families in all kinds of ways. Lets celebrate your journey to motherhood however you made it here.

What is included in the Blessingway? Moon Mother sets up everything in the space of the mother-to-be, aromatherapy, baby belly henna, digital invitations, birth affirmations, candles for candle ceremony, as well as gold or silver chain.

What is the cost of a Blessingway? 700 euros with a cap of 10 people in attendance including the woman of honor. If there is a larger group, we would need to discuss pricing further.

What is a Women’s Circle? A women’s circle is gathered around one woman in particular. Maybe she just launched her business, maybe she just suffered a loss, maybe she just got married, or maybe she just got divorced. Whatever the case may be, she needs to gather her tribe around her in support. For a spiritually supportive evening where we can hold space and honor her.

What happens at a Women’s Circle? Depending on the theme it can be very celebratory or reflective. Every woman in the circle offers a blessing for woman of honor. We do a guided meditation and some custom aromatherapy, so that whenever the woman of honor smells the scent, she will be reminded of all the support she has in her circle. Depending on the host its possible to include henna tattoos, candle painting, or oracle card reading.
